Preparing for the Camino
Mind, Body, and Soul

Valcarlos, Spain
May 5-8 and September 1-4, 2026
If you’ve felt the call to walk the Camino de Santiago, join us for a transformative retreat in Valcarlos, just 10 minutes from the historic French starting point of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, where you’ll feel empowered and supported, gain the confidence to overcome any challenge, and connect deeply with a community of fellow pilgrims.
Beneath a sky glittering with stars, you sit close to the fire, its warmth wrapping around you as the cool breeze of the Pyrenees brushes against your skin.
In your hands, you hold a letter filled with the weight of your heart—your fears, your regrets, your hopes. Around you, the silence hums with the quiet presence of fellow pilgrims, each one holding their own story, ready to let go.
The air is thick with anticipation, the fire crackling softly as it waits to receive what no longer serves you.
When your turn comes, you step forward, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation. With a deep breath, you offer your letter to the fire, watching as it catches light and begins to burn.
The paper curls, the ink blurs, and your words—your fears, regrets, and longings—are consumed by the flames. You watch as the smoke rises, carrying your past into the night sky, feeling a wave of release wash over you, a lightness in your heart you haven’t felt in years.
As you return to the circle, the warmth of your Camino family surrounds you, and in this sacred moment, you know—truly know—that you are held, seen, and understood. The fire dances, the stars shimmer, and you vow to walk this journey, and the rest of your life, with an open heart.
The letter may be gone, but the feeling of release and renewal remains, like a quiet mark on your soul, a beginning of something new and beautiful.
WELCOME TO THE JOURNEY WITHIN RETREAT… YOUR CAMINO DE SANTIAGO BEGINS HERE!
Wouldn’t it be amazing to plan your Camino with ease, knowing exactly what the next steps are?
Yes, it would! And that’s exactly what you’ll experience. By the time the retreat starts, you’ll have a clear sense of direction and purpose, making you feel confident and excited to embark on your Camino journey with a calm mind and an open heart.
Can you imagine the joy of connecting with like-minded people who truly understand and support you?
Oh, absolutely! Before and through the retreat, you’ll build meaningful connections with fellow pilgrims who share your passion and purpose. You’ll start your Camino feeling supported, understood, and truly seen.
How incredible would it be to let go of past struggles and step onto the Camino with a happy, open heart?
It sounds amazing, right? While we’re together, you’ll experience the kind of release that makes room for joy. Letting go of old burdens will open you up to new possibilities, and you’ll start your Camino with a light heart, ready to embrace whatever comes your way.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find joy in the little things, feeling present and grateful each day?
Yes, it would! And during our time together, you’ll learn how to slow down and truly savor each moment. With mindfulness and gratitude practices, you’ll transform not only your Camino experience but also how you live your daily life, appreciating everything around you.
Just looking at our photo warms the heart, causes me to smile and remember those days where it brought to the surface those deep troublesome thoughts and by talking, laughing and with good food, we were able to focus on what was good in life, prepare our upcoming travels and sing along with Rod Stewart. All because those beautiful people Ricky and Erica had the courage to create a Caminotellers retreat, and so I thank you for pointing me in a direction that has changed my life and way of thinking.

The Pyrenees are the perfect starting point for your Camino de Santiago journey. Nestled in the lush greenery of these ancient mountains is Valcarlos, a village steeped in tradition and history, just a 10-minute drive from the historic starting point of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France.
Here, you’ll find our retreat venue, an old albergue that has welcomed pilgrims for centuries. This house has a history that runs deep—back in the 13th century, before there were marked trails, pilgrims were guided here by the sound of a bell ringing through the mist.
This is more than just a place to stay; it’s a piece of the Camino’s soul, woven into every stone.
Imagine arriving at this cozy mountain retreat in Valcarlos, surrounded by the soothing sounds of a nearby waterfall and the gentle flow of a river.
Horses graze peacefully on the hillsides, and a sense of calm settles over you. The albergue has a timeless Basque charm, its stone walls holding the stories of countless pilgrims who’ve started their journey here, just like you.
This is a place where you can feel the weight of the world lift off your shoulders, where the only things that matter are the path ahead and the company of those around you.
Here, in the quiet embrace of the Pyrenees, you can slow down and truly prepare for the journey ahead.
This house, with its warm hearth and welcoming spirit, is more than just a stop along the way—it’s a place to gather your thoughts, set your intentions, and connect with the deeper purpose of your journey.
The mountains around you stand as silent witnesses to your first steps, a reminder that you are not alone on this path. This is where your Camino begins, in a place that feels like home.
We will be staying at Toki Ona, a rural house designed to feel like a sanctuary, where every detail invites rest and reflection. You’ll have a choice of three room types, each crafted to support your journey:
Each room is a restful space that blends seamlessly with the natural beauty surrounding you—an ideal start to your Camino journey.
Meals made with love.
At our retreat, the cuisine is all about coming together in the true spirit of the Camino. We’ll be preparing meals as a group, sharing stories and laughter while we cook up a fusion of traditional Spanish dishes with a delightful twist of Italian flair. Picture yourself slicing fresh vegetables for a vibrant, colorful salad or stirring a hearty Spanish lentil stew, rich with spices that warm your soul.
Imagine the smell of a mouthwatering golden Spanish tortilla sizzling in the pan, or the satisfying crunch of fresh, oven-baked bread with a drizzle of local olive oil. Our meals will be nutritious, delicious, and made with love, each bite a taste of the journey ahead. And don’t worry if you have dietary restrictions—whether you’re vegetarian, dairy-free, or have other preferences, we’ll do our best to accommodate so everyone can enjoy the feast.
Cooking and eating together is not just about the food—it’s about building connections, sharing a part of ourselves, and getting into the rhythm of the Camino lifestyle. By the time we sit down to enjoy the meals we’ve created, you’ll not only taste the flavors of Spain but also the joy of community, knowing you’re starting your journey with a full heart and a nourished body.
Start your day with a gentle Qi Gong session at sunrise, grounding and energizing you for whatever lies ahead.
Our fun, interactive movement sessions will help you tune into your body’s natural rhythm, allowing you to shake off any fear of judgment and simply enjoy being present in the moment.
Throughout the retreat, you’ll learn practical walking tips and tricks, such as how to use trekking poles properly or adjust your backpack to avoid injury. To help your body adjust to the time difference and beat jet lag, we’ve designed activities that will leave you feeling fresh and ready to embrace the journey.
And of course, enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals that we prepare together, nourishing your body and giving you the fuel you need for the adventure ahead.
Step away from the daily grind and immerse yourself in personal growth and self-reflection.
Our mindful walks will challenge your mind, opening you up to new perspectives and emotions, while the peaceful surroundings allow you to set clear intentions for your Camino.
These sessions are designed to get your mind in sync with your deepest desires, helping you find clarity and learn to trust your intuition. This is your opportunity to clear your head, focus on what truly matters, and prepare mentally for the transformative journey ahead.
Open your heart through daily sharing circles, where you can express your true feelings in a safe, supportive space. Connect deeply with fellow pilgrims, forging meaningful friendships that allow you to feel seen and understood.
In our special Letting Go Ceremony, release any emotional baggage you’ve been carrying, making space for joy and new experiences.
The bonds you create here with your Camino family will offer emotional support and lift your spirits throughout the journey, creating a heartfelt connection that lasts far beyond the retreat.
Reconnect with your spirit in the serene, sacred setting of the Pyrenees, a place that has been a haven for pilgrims for centuries.

I cannot imagine going from the airplane straight to walking the Camino. I was excited but also really nervous, anxious, and stressed. It wasn’t the physical preparation I needed as much as the mental and emotional preparation to feel ready for the Camino ahead.

Before stepping foot on the Camino, I’ve always been a traveler at heart, but life threw me a curveball when I suffered a debilitating back injury that left me bedridden. It was a tough time—feeling stuck in my body, yearning for freedom.
That struggle is what led me to the Camino de Santiago, a journey that not only healed my body but also transformed my soul. Before stepping foot on the Camino, I spent years diving deep into meditation and Vedic studies, exploring the nature of self and life’s purpose through the lens of Vedanta philosophy. My inner journey was just as important as my outer one, pushing me to question everything and seek a deeper meaning.
The Camino reignited my passion for digital storytelling, and today, I share my journey to help others navigate their own challenges.
I know what it’s like to feel trapped, whether by physical limitations, fear, or uncertainty, and I’m here to guide others on a path of self-discovery, just like I found mine.
I used to be an event manager, constantly juggling responsibilities and feeling like something was missing. I longed for a sense of belonging, a deeper purpose, so I embarked on a pilgrimage—not just to new places but also inward.
Over the course of 12 years, I’ve walked sacred paths and explored the world, only to realize that the real home I was searching for was within me all along.
I understand what it feels like to stand at a crossroads, unsure of the next step, because I’ve been there myself. Through my journey, I’ve learned to navigate life’s uncertainties, and now I help others do the same. My mission is to empower people to trust their inner voice, unlock their potential, and turn their dreams into reality.
I believe that transformation begins with that first step, and I’m here to walk beside you as you take yours.
